Manchester United Fan In Malaysia

After watch United lose to Chelsea last night. I have changed my TV channel to TV1 to watch Malaysia Super league match. It is between Kedah & Pahang. Since Kedah or also know as the Canaries with popular colours, Hijau Kuning already sealed this season title early this month when they defeated Terengganu 2-0, this match actually meaningless for the league rank, however, I would love to see Kedah win this match because they will get the trophy after the match in front of their home fan.

There are 25000 filled up Darulaman Stadium last night to see the Canaries downed Pahang 1-0 in their final home match of the season, courtesy of a 10-minute Marlon James goal. And after the match, the fan gives their loudest cheers when Kedah received the Super League trophy from Sultan Kedah Sultan Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah.

Mohd Azraai Khor’s team, who had already created history by bagging an unprecedented treble last year, are also the first side to successfully defend the Super League trophy.

Congratulation to Kedah soccer team…hopefully Manchester United will do the same this season!!

What a great result last night!!.. Although, Manutd losing English FA Cup final to Chelsea last month, this result from Batu Kawan, Penang is a really a good one for me!.

Last night, Kedah beat Perlis 4-2 in a nervy penalty shootout to lift the FA Cup after 120 minutes of football that saw no goals at the Batu Kawan Stadium in Penang last night.
It was another heartbreak for Perlis who were also beaten on penalties by Pahang in last year’s final.

Kedah’s Sabri Abu scored the fifth and decisive penalty after earlier conversions by Bunyamin Umar, Hasmawi Hassan (pic) and Shafizan Hashim.

Perlis converted only twice through Azi Shahril Azmi and Kabwe Kamuzati.

If, Manchester United is my favorite club in English Premier League, Kedah is actually my local favorite football team !!

Although, I was born in Perak…. Kedah is always my team since my childhood. During Kedah golden years ( 1988 ~ 1993 ), you can easily watch Green-Yellow (Hijau-Kuning) flags all over Kedah just like political party’s flags during General Election and the traffic light poles was also Green and Yellow colours instead of Black and White. Although Kedah’s flag is actually red colour, Green-Yellow flag is more popular for most Kedahan!

So, last night, when Kedah draw 1-1 with Malaysia most successful club, Selangor at Shah Alam Stadium.. the wonderful memories of FA Cup 1996 has came back to me because Kedah will be back in the FA Cup final again after almost 11 years!

At the time when Kedah met Sarawak at Stadium Merdeka, the whole Malaysia was in BLACKOUT!!. I was in the stadium with my friend, Ponpon, Bulat (Kedah’s fan), Lanoon ( Selangor’s fan) and Pijat ( Kelantan’s Fan ). So, the match has been postponed to the next day and in that day, I brings my Finland’s friend to support Kedah. His name is Juho Rissanen. He can speaks in Malay..so, he quickly became a popular figure among Kedah’s die hard fan in the stadium.

In that wonderful match, Kedah won 1-0 and became the FA Cup Champion for the time! So, now Kedah is back in FA Cup final..and I really hope they can regain the title after 11 years by demolish Perlis!!
