I just found this article in manchesterunited.vitalfootball.co.uk and I think I like it very much. Its all about Liverpool dream since 2002 until today…
Yeah..a pretty good night dream..
Liverpool’s manager believes they can win the title unless they remain injury free as the hunger and the quality of the squad is there and now they are closer than ever to the likes of Manchester United.
‘There’s an incredible feeling of unity amongst the players,’ he said.
‘They know they’re not the best yet because we haven’t won the title, but the foundation is there.’
‘I have a team that, when they want something, they get it. We can be awesome, we can be unbreakable, we can be unstoppable.’
What do you think? Can they?
K, OK. They couldn’t because this is not Rafa Benitez I’m talking about but Gerard Houllier. The above quotes are from him, from 2002 after Liverpool had their best ever Premiership campaign, finishing second behind Arsenal. But I was irresistibly reminded of these comments after reading what Benitez had to say about his team.
‘We are going forward, we are progressing. For the future this is good news and hopefully this is the beginning of something important.
‘In terms of the consistency of the team we’ve been really good. The squad is better, the mentality is very good and the players are competing for their positions.’
We’ve shown we can beat anyone. Clearly we have enough quality in the team.’
‘Each year is different but we are closer, we have more confidence, and the
Experience of this year will be good for next season.
Next season, next season, always about improvement, always about next season: that’s the Liverpool way. It hasn’t changed a jot since 2002.
By the way, you surely remember where Houllier’s Liverpool finished next season after his confident remarks? Fifth. Even Newcastle United overtook them. Of course they don’t have to be afraid of them this time…
